(3/1/14: Looking for Smileys for a Ning 3.0 network? Go here: http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/smileys-for-ning-3-0-beta-f... )

(7/25/11: There is a Unbranded Version that does not mention jQueryHelp.ning.com available for a Donation of $15 or more.  If you want it, message me!)

-------------------------------------------

NOTE - This code is for Ning 2.0 sites!  The code for Ning 3.0 sites is here:

http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/smileys-for-ning-3-0-beta-f...

-------------------------------------------

Ning has changed the Text Editor that they provide for all of our Ning Networks.  My Smileys version 4 and 5 do not work correctly with the new Text Editor.  With versions 4 and 5, you can no longer click the Smileys to get them to appear in the textbox. So I have written Version 6A which is meant to work with the new Text Editor.  in 6A you CAN click the Smileys and they will go into the textbox when the text editor is in Visual Mode but NOT in HTML mode.

This version does NOT convert Smiley codes entered in the textbox into Smiley images and does NOT convert Smiley codes in older comments and replies into Smiley images.  Versions 4 and 5 did that, but they could CAUSE PROBLEMS with the editor so I suggest you upgrade to 6.

I may try to add the ability to convert codes to images in future upgrades to version 6.

We are using Smileys 6A here now.  Try it out!

Here is the code for Smileys 6A, use it on your site if you want, and AT YOUR OWN RISK!  If you ever notice any problems on your site, REMOVE THIS AND OTHER JS from your Custom Code / Analytics textbox to see if the code is causing your problems.

NOTE:  This code goes in your Custom Code (also know as Analytics) textbox.

Make sure you DO NOT put it inside any other script tags.  If you do, then the "more" button will not work and it may affect other code as well.  It is also a good idea to make a copy of your custom code before editing it.  Copy it to a text file in Notepad if you're on Windows.

Here is the code!

<!-- Setup file for More Smileys - Add your own custom Smileys -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/dA0WF0z08cJc9DYUxlB0ieJWKmRGequtxn3-nUAaAVkul9r0yZetwHPAzKERw*GV5j77mp9WIh41TM2m80AQDSjNVfm0SeU4/ZMoreSmileyData.js"></script>
<!-- Smileys 6A - from jQueryHelp.ning.com - DO NOT DELETE THIS! -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/dA0WF0z08cKNJHzaNpjPqYkXzSFQYvg2MpX8yXkYzC1CfPmAteWsm1s8gJVQA3TfBqpihLxzro1t6T*BnAjBnKCURmbSChcj/SmileyTest6A.js"></script>

Make sure there are no spaces in those long file names starting with api.ning.com:80/files... Try this older version if the above does not work for you.

<!-- Setup file for More Smileys - Add your own custom Smileys -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.bkserv3.net/jQueryHelp/js/ZMoreSmileyData.js"></script>
<!-- Smileys 6A - from jQueryHelp.ning.com - DO NOT DELETE THIS! -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.bkserv3.net/jQueryHelp/js/SmileyTest6A.js"></script>

Want to use your own Smileys?  Read this:

http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/try-smileys-20?id=2818000%3...

4 built in Smiles work but "more" button doesn't work?  The code is probably inside another script tag.  Check your code.  This has been reported a few times, see here for one example:

http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/try-smileys-version-6-for-t...

Hey TJ!

I added this to my network, but it doesn't seem like the "more" link works properly. I could add the smileys, but upon clicking "more", nothing loads for me. Any ideas? The only things in my custom code are: Google Analytics, Skysa bar, Christmas Snow Falling Effect Thing, and the smileys.

hey tj they switched the editor around again to where creator have the option for old stlye editor,when selecting this option ,your smileys will not work unless dragging,,so i know mow creators like the old stlye you might want to switch your coding around a lilttle

Just kidding TJ. I tried changing things around in my test network and it was the snow fall script that was causing problems. I'm going to leave the snowfall script there until christmas, and then remove it so i can get the smileys working. Thanks.

Yep. I saw that on Creators.  Versions 4 or 5 might work with some versions of the new editor.  Thanks for the feedback!  I hope to get more here.  We'll see what versions of the Smileys work best with what versions of that ever-changing Ning text editor.

Hey TJ,

Thanks for joining my network and working that out for me. I love the smileys

I made a change in the code - try using the bkserv3.net version, it should work.  I changed the code in the Discussion head above already.

It works great in the first post under a discussion TJ. However doesn't show up under the following replies

Oops, now it does. weird. This one is even better than the previous one because the more option now shows up under following replies as it only used to underneath the top box.

Great job TJ and thanks for sharing

Ah figured it out. I have to refresh the page first for the smileys to show up again. So if I'm replying to 3 other messages in a discussion on the same page  I have to refresh the page first every time I wish to add my own comment in order to see the smileys
