( 3/1/14: There is an updated and unbranded version of the Smiley package for Ning 3.0 available for $15.  Pay at pay@bkserv.com and then write me at TJ@bkserv.com and I'll send you the code for the updated and unbranded version. Thanks! )

Here is our port of the very popular jQueryHelp Smileys package, for Ning 3.0!

There are well over 300 Ning networks that have our smiley package on them.  Now we'll be converting it to work on the Ning 3.0 platform. This is our first version and works for comments on photos and blogs.

[JULY 2013 - Code updated to fix the Photobucket image issue, read more here: http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/ning-3-0-emoticons]

If you want to try it out on your Ning 3.0 site, please add this code to your Custom Code "End of Page Code" box:

<!-- Setup file for More Smileys - Add your own custom Smileys -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/3vrxTCw6TBxQ28vy-AJA0xAiYJXyYqKSzovM5qtyCenxxL0XaZ4OzOfuoGlGREC*aJ2HGqmX*H-Gag9JcugqNL6HHIkvmK1u/BKMoreSmileyData2.js"></script>
<!-- Smileys 7A for Ning 3.0 - from TJ at http:// jQueryHelp.ning.com - DO NOT DELETE THIS! -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/TpH3GRQjXIN3CU0GhEMsHmxZ3XJtkOt8X8k3T6-6Z3GXLMpdvwAICyMjIifrMZ4OWPRiWPA9RESpi5-WjuyxdxDSQe6rJV2a/SmileyTest7A.js"></script>

If you want to try this, copy it exactly as you see it here into your custom code box.  DO NOT Change Anything!

Oh yeah?  Didn't know that.....

Hi Riccardo,

Could you expand on that a little?  What do you mean when you say that a comment is classified as spam?  Who classifies it like that?  Does Ning 3.0 have some sort of new spam filter for comments?  I know they are working to reduce spammers who try to become Members but I didn't know about them doing anything about spam comments.  Where do these spam comments go?  Do they end up in a spam filter?  Let me know what you found out.  Thanks for your feedback, as always!

Pay attention TJ because I remarked that often, if someone uso ONLY smiles to comment something, in NING 3.0 the comment is classified as spam

Ok Tj: as you know we approve photos before publish it, in the same folder where are pending approuval photos there is a subfolder colled "spam", where I find overall photos that contain link in the descripiron (they are FB links or personal site). To show to all people these photos to all members I have to do "not spam". Sometimes happens that in the spam subfolder there are comments and many of them are comments (to photos, to forum topics ecc) that contain ONLY your smiles. As well as photos classified as spam, to show those comments I have to mark it as "not spam"

Riccardo,

Thanks for that excellent description of the situation you are encountering!

Do you have a proposed solution?  Should I do a Smiley app that does not allow a Member to add a Smiley unless they have also added some text in their comment or reply?  Is there another solution?  What are your thoughts?

THANKS!

Personally I control often that folder and it is not a problem for me, I think you may contact somoene in ning to solve the problem also because there are many networks that use your emoticons

thanks TJ, used these on my 3.0 site, looks great!

aww thanks!

I had put Jquery Smileys on my ning network it is working great in my network 3.0 but not working on my iphone, i cannot put any smiley faces through the iPhone.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the feedback.   Fire-Tech mentioned on page 1 of these comments that it wasn't working on iPad.  So I imagine it is an issue with Ning and Apple products.  If I ever buy an iPad or iPod or iPhone then I can check this out more, but I think it's actually something Ning will fix, since they have had other issues with Apple products and I'm sure they are working to fix them.  Hopefully that will happen soon.

Best wishes!

TJ to the rescue again!

I had a little glitch (after paying the $15) and within hours TJ had the solution, pleasantly and professionally provided.

Working just fine now.

Thanks TJ!
