Help with jQuery Mods and Hacks for your Ning Network!

Hello friends.  There is a Photobucket issue.  Some of you may be using a version of our Smileys that use images stored on Photobucket.  If you have an issue, please try the code changes mentioned in this comment:

http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/try-smileys-version-6-for-t...

Or just see below where I copied and pasted it!

Best wishes to all, and if you have any questions, please ask!

Thanks!

CODE CHANGES - Host your own Smileys, or Use Mine and Consider a Donation

When the first version of my Smiley app was released years ago, it just had the 4 built in Smileys.  People asked for a way to add "more" smileys and I put that into the next version.  A member here had a bunch of Smileys on photobucket and suggested I could use them as the "more" smileys, and I did.  So those "more" smileys are on HIS photobucket account, over which I have no control.  I have no idea why a few of the smileys are "down" sometimes.

The solution is to host your own "more" smileys on your own server.  And then you will have to modify some of the code for this app.  There is a link to the instructions in the original post above, or just go here:

http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/try-smileys-20?id=2818000%3...

I have hosted the "more" smileys on one of my servers.  If you don't want to go through the trouble of making your own "more" smileys, you can use the ones on my server, BUT THEN PLEASE CONSIDER A SMALL DONATION!  $10 would be cool, or whatever you can afford.  Donate button is on the Main page here.  Or Send Money to pay@bkserv.com  THANKS!

Just change this line:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.bkserv3.net/jQueryHelp/js/ZMoreSmileyData.js"></script>

to this:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.bkserv3.net/jQueryHelp/js/BKMoreSmileyData2.js"></script>

Best Wishes!

"TJ"

NEW for JULY 2017 -

Photobucket is blocking our emoji files.  You can use the fix above, or if you see this in your Custom Code

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com/files/dA0WF0z08cJc9DYUxlB0ieJWKmRGequtxn3-nUAaAVkul9r0yZetwHPAzKERw*GV5j77mp9WIh41TM2m80AQDSjNVfm0SeU4/ZMoreSmileyData.js"></script>

you can replace it with

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com/files/2vCzKZbk2EJKRwTWOQ3CmQNuNkQOxGxkcuBws-scH2jW3oRdL0xf1W2tIzFPqf2RfJxkd7AJoHF8djx8LvqvPdHmB6IixKHt/BKMoreSmileyData2.js"></script>

TO GET RID OF UGLY PHOTOBUCKET MESSAGES:

many of you will have existing comments and replies with the "More" smileys in them, which are now showing that ugly Photobucket message.  Add this code to your Custom Code box to get rid of them:

<script type="text/javascript">
x$(document).ready(function() {
x$('img[src^="http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad93/ucsycybersmiley"]').remove();
});
</script>

That should work for Ning 2 and Ning 3 sites.

If anyone has PAID me for Smileys, message me for better code to try.

Hi Strumelia!

I just sent you a message with some code to try.  If anyone else has PAID me for Smileys, message me for code to try.

If anyone else wants to just get rid of ugly photobucket messages on your Ning site, try the code I replied to this discussion with:

http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/ning-3-0-emoticons

I'll copy it here, for convenience!

Can we fix the height and width of smileys if they are big?

It depends where they are stored at.  I have had different versions over the years that use smiley files stored at different places.  For the original code that used the smileys contributed to us by a member, and stored on photobucket, this might work:

<script type="text/javascript">
x$(document).ready(function() {
x$('img[src^="http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad93/ucsycybersmiley"]').css({"max-width":"24px","max-height":"24px"});
});
</script>

That might set them to a max size of 24px width or height.

If you are using smileys that are stored somewhere else, change this

"http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad93/ucsycybersmiley"

to whatever the start of their URL is, like "http://somesite.com/folder"

Hi TJ!

I think this code is not working anymore. The image seems to disappear for a moment then it appears again. What to do next?

Thanks

Hi TJ!

Here is my website link

https://vuhelp.pk/page/vu-assignments-gdbs

Here is your script. I hosted my own smileys so I am using my library link.

<script type="text/javascript">
x$(document).ready(function() {
x$('img[src^="http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y401/hamzaumar/NewSmileys"]').remove();
});
</script>

Currently this script is attached through external .js file. I also try it with custom code box, but no progress.

Here is the external .js link

Hi Hami,

Maybe you have some code that refreshes the images.  I assume that your photobucket account doesn't have the smileys anymore and you are trying to get rid of whatever ugly message photobucket is showing in place of the smiley.  If you can't find any code that is refreshing the images, try this and see what happens.

<script type="text/javascript">
x$(document).ready(function() {

setInterval(function() {

x$('img[src^="http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y401/hamzaumar/NewSmileys"]').remove();

}, 200);

});
</script>

That should keep removing the photobucket images 5 times a second every second, while a person is on your site.  Not the best way to do it, but maybe the only way.  Give it a try but remove it if it causes any issues.
