Hello nice people!

 

Have you noticed that bar at the bottom of our Main page that shows how many Members, Photos, Videos etc we have here? (November 2012 - I took it off this site but I can put it back if anyone wants to see it   Or just grab the code and try it on your site!)

I just added this script and it is great thank you so much
A few questions though,

1. can I change the backgroundcolour as it clashes with the rest of my site
2. Can I remove the YourTubeStars Links as it has no value to my network
3. I have a private network due to very personal content of members. Will this in any way appear in Google or another search engine?

Hello, nice people!

I intend to add the ability to change the background color on this Ning Stat Bar, fairly soon.

The YouTubeStars link can be removed for anyone who sends me a donation. :-) Sorry but Ning is charging me to keep this network open so I have to ask people who use my apps for a little help.

This bar simply takes content that is on other parts of your network and aggregates it on this bar. If the links go to pages that are "member only" then Google won't be able to get to them. Actually, if Google comes to your Main page, this bar probably won't even show. The bar should not show for anyone who is not a member. Try it - sign out and look at the Main page - the bar will not be there.

NEW VERSION!

Version 1B is released. Same code as I gave in the original post - just change NingStatBar1A to NingStatBar1B

You can set the font color and the background color.

Put these lines inside any <script> tag:

var jQueryHelp_NSB_color = "#333333";
var jQueryHelp_NSB_bgcolor = "#cccccc";

First one set the font color, second one sets the background color. Use your own color codes or color names, like "red"

Unfortunately I had to remove this script again
The YouStars link that is attached to it takes members away from my site and doesn't allow for clicking i.e. navigating back. Also I don't appreciate such a link in general as one of my concerns is with privacy of content

Slight edit to version 1B - if a user clicks the YouTubeStars link, it will now open in a new tab or window.

I work hard to make the apps you see on here. I give them away right now, but they are ad supported. I get paid to have the ads there. If anyone wants a version of this app without the ad, PayPal me $10 and message me. I'll make you an ad-free version, or I can put in a link to anything else you might like in place of the YouTubeStars link.

I mention backgroundcolour and you make it happen so we can change that
I mention the issue with YouTubeStars and you take action on that straight away
Great job and well appreciated.

Can you answer me how things are with regard to privacy when I use this script
My network is private and nothing of the content is to be displayed anywhere outside my network such as in search engines or otherwise

I'm pretty sure Google or any other search engine won't see this script. Only members can see it and Google can't log in to anyone's site. You'll see what I mean if you go to our Main page and Sign Out. You won't see the Ning Stat Bar anymore. Sign back in and there it is! So I don't think the bar or any links in it will appear to any search engines or other web crawling bots.

Well then, as I don't like ads I have no control over but do understand you have to keep your network up and running as well, let me have the details on how to pay for the ad free script. If you have an Euro account on Paypal that would be great as that would save me a few $ on currency conversion. If not so be it.

Hi Celina,

I am in the USA and I went to PayPal but I didn't see any info about other currencies. If you can pay in dollars, then $10 will be fine, but if you can only pay in Euros, pay whatever is close to the equivalent to $10 and I'll accept whatever PayPal ends up crediting me with. :)

I now have a PayPal Donate button on the Main page that you can use. Or just sign into PayPal, choose Send Money and use [e-mail] as the email address to pay.

After you send the payment, message me here or at [e-mail] and let me know you made the payment. If you have a certain color scheme in mind, let me know what you want the font color to be, and what background color. You can always change them in the future, as I described in here yesterday. Note that the links will be whatever color you have chosen for all the other links on your site.

Once I get your color choices, I'll make you the ad-free version and send you the one line of code to put in your Analytics textbox. Thanks!!! :)
