Hi Friends,

There is currently an issue with Photobucket, which is the website that stores the "More" Smileys.  This issue affects both the Ning 2 Smiley app and the Ning 3 Smiley app.  It appears that Photobucket is indicating that the "More" smileys have exceeded some bandwidth cap, meaning they have been displayed on too many web pages.  If you are seeing the kind of black and grey image notice from Photobucket as shown above by Riccardo, then you are affected by this issue.

You will notice that we are not affect by this, here.  That is because I host the "More" smileys on my own server, for the version of the code I use here.  Also, the 4 basic smileys that show before the "more" link are not affected on any sites, since I have always hosted those 4 on my own server.

The solution will need to address two parts of the problem.  First, many of you will have existing comments and replies with the "More" smileys in them, which are now showing that ugly Photobucket message.  Add this code to your Custom Code box to get rid of them:

<script type="text/javascript">
x$(document).ready(function() {
x$('img[src^="http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad93/ucsycybersmiley"]').remove();
});
</script>

That should work for Ning 2 and Ning 3 sites.

The second part of the solution is to upgrade to the Smileys code that uses the "More" Smileys from my server.  SInce I host these smileys and they obviously require a lot of bandwidth, which is causing a problem for Photobucket, I ask for a donation to help pay for the server fees, $10 or more is recommended, at pay@bkserv.com on PayPal.   Thanks!

FOR NING 2 SITES: Read here: http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/xn/detail/2818000:Comment:47146 to see what line in your Custom Code box to change, so the "More" Smileys show properly now and in the future on your site, at least until we all have to move to Ning 3.

FOR NING 3 SITES - Use this new code in your Custom Code box:

<!-- Setup file for More Smileys - Add your own custom Smileys -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/3vrxTCw6TBxQ28vy-AJA0xAiYJXyYqKSzovM5qtyCenxxL0XaZ4OzOfuoGlGREC*aJ2HGqmX*H-Gag9JcugqNL6HHIkvmK1u/BKMoreSmileyData2.js"></script>
<!-- Smileys 7A for Ning 3.0 - from TJ at http:// jQueryHelp.ning.com - DO NOT DELETE THIS! -->

True genius TJ! Thank you for the error image removal code!

We are now hosting the more smileys from a blog post where we uploaded all of them. Do you think there would be any bandwidth issue in the future by doing that?

Hi TJ,

 Just tried the removal code in Ning 2.0 but it doesn't seem to have worked. Still have the photobucket warnings on the site. I double checked to make sure the code was all there & also checked the file path on the "bandwidth" error pictures & the path appears to be right.

Hi Stargazer,

Good idea to upload the smileys to Ning via a blog post!   There should not be a bandwidth problem if the images are at Ning, they are very small.  I really don't know why PhotoBucket is having a problem with the images, but my Smiley app is on over 300 sites and some do have thousands of members, so maybe we finally hit the limit!

Sorry the removal code didn't work for you but if you share the URL of your site I'll have a look.

Best wishes!

Hi Stargazer,

I see the removal code on your site.  Perhaps the ugly Photobucket images will be gone after a hard refresh by typing control-F5.  It looks like you have the correct code and hopefully it just needs a page refresh to work.  Let me know!  Thanks and best wishes!

Hi TJ,

 Do you mean press & hold the Ctrl, -, & F5 buttons or type that in sequence in a text box? I tried both but the images are still there.

Hold the Ctrl key and then press F5 at the same time.  I'll join the site now and have a look, when I'm approved!
