Help with jQuery Mods and Hacks for your Ning Network!

Is it possible to put a count on how many persons have like a network member's profile?

When Ning released the Like feature we were all excited until I found out I couldn't know the number of persons that have liked a network member's profile. That really frustrated me because I had launched a profile page design contest and was counting on using the number of profile likes members have to give out rewards.

It's surprising though because all other items we like have a count.

I hoping tj or the team here could have a way around that detail.

I posted the same post on Creators but it got ignored and buried in millions of posts.

So to put it clearly, I'd like to have that small tag "xxxmembers" like this profile when we view a member's profile on my network.

Weekend greetings to everyone here.

Hi Denis!

There actually IS a LIKE Count on the Profile pages!  Ning just has it styled to not display right now.  I imagine that is because they are still working on it.

For example, I went to one site and saw this content right under the Ning Like button:

<div class="like-count">
<a class="view-liked" _id="6329453:User:619" href="#">100 members like this</a>
</div>

with this style:

.vcard .like-count {
    displaynone !important;
}
So I guess its coming soon from Ning.
Best wishes,

Oh this is good to know. Could be that they just forgot it? It would be great to have that. I posted a topic about it but no one from Ning cared to say anything.

Thanks tj

An idea - you could try adding this to your Appearance | Advanced textbox and see if the Like Count shows!

.vcard .like-count {
 displayblock !important;
}

or try this in your custom code box:

<script type="text/javascript">

x$('.like-count').show();

</script>

I tried this code in my code custom box but the profile page like count doesn't show Tj.

I really hope they will deal with that later. It really doesn't make sense that we can't know how many members have liked a profile page we all other items have it.

Hi Denis,

I don't know if this hidden like count is on all networks or not.  I do see it at ARK.  Here's the code I see in their source:

    span class="start-tag">div class="ning-like">
span class="start-tag">div class="xg_lightborder like-button like-button-3">
span class="start-tag">a data-content-id="6329453:User:302" data-content-type="User" data-sign-up-url="http://arkmusicfactory.com/main/authorization/signUp?target=http%3A%2F%2Farkmusicfactory.com%2Fprofiles%2Fprofile%2Fshow%3Fid%3DRebeccaBlack%26" data-page-type="profile" class="xg_sprite" href="#">Like</a>
</div>
span class="start-tag">div class="like-count">
span class="start-tag">a href="#" class="view-liked" _id="6329453:User:302">131 members like this</a>
        </div>
</div>

and in their CSS, they have this which makes it NOT display:

.vcard .like-count {
    displaynone !important;
}
You can see the page here and check the source, you'll see what I mean:
So maybe they are rolling it out.  Check your own site.  Do a "View Source" and search for "like-count" to see if you even have this hidden div on your site.  Maybe you can ask about this at Creators Forum and see if anyone knows anything there!
Best wishes!
"TJ"
P.S. Got your message about the Chinese social sites but haven't had a chance to do much research on them yet, but I will!

Thank you again tj. I am presently making a lot of noise about it on Creators hoping someone from Ning will say a thing. So far so quiet.
